Arsenal reportedly turned down the chance to sign Dejan Kulusevski ahead of Tottenham in the January transfer window, according to The Athletic.
Kulusevski, 21, left Juventus for Spurs on loan in the winter after struggling to gain consistent minutes under the tutelage of Massimiliano Allegri.
The Sweden international has quickly proved to be a hit in North London, notching three goals and six assists in a front three alongside Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.
But Kulusevski could have been plying his trade for Arsenal instead had the Gunners pulled the trigger on securing his signature.
The Athletic has revealed Mikel Arteta’s side considered the winger to be a long-term transfer target after monitoring his progress for Juventus.
However, they opted against completing a transfer as they believed left-footed wingers Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe provided adequate squad depth.
Spurs Web Opinion:
Kulusevski’s strong form will likely lead to Spurs completing his permanent signing at the end of the season, bringing the total fee for his move up to around £33 million (€40m) (ESPN).
Spurs will be glad that Arsenal passed up on the chance to acquire Kulusevski as his impact has been massive so far. Realistically, the Gunners had options at right wing to begin whereas Spurs were a little light there, but either way, it was a big miss from them regardless.
