Tottenham’s managing director of Fabio Paratici has been cleared by Italy’s Federal Court following an accounting investigation dating back to his time at Juventus.
The trial revolved around alleged inflated transfer fees and capital gains involving 11 different clubs in the top three flights of Italian football including the likes of Juventus, Napoli, Sampdoria, Genoa, Empoli, and Parma.
These clubs were accused of inflating transfer fees for player exchanges, thereby balancing the books by making it seem as though they were moving more valuable assets than they actually were.
Paratici, along with Juve president Andrea Agnelli and Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis, were among the 59 individuals under investigation, with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the FIGC calling for a suspension of 16 months and 10 days for all of the figures involved (Gianluca Di Marzio).
However, all 11 clubs and the 59 individuals have now been cleared following an investigation.
A statement by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said on Friday (as relayed by Reuters):
“The National Federal Court chaired by Carlo Sica has acquitted all the companies, managers and administrators of the clubs that had been referred by the Federal Prosecutor for having accounted for capital gains and rights to the services of players for values in the financial reports exceeding those permitted by accounting principles. The reasons will be disclosed in the next few days.”

This is great news for Spurs as the last thing we needed ahead of the summer was for the man overseeing the rebuild, Paratici, to be suspended for a lengthy duration. That could have also put a serious strain on the relationship between Conte and the Spurs hierarchy, given that Paratici seems to have been instrumental in getting the Italian to the club.
