MK Dons captain Dean Lewington has lavished praise on Tottenham striker Troy Parrott for putting in the hard work necessary to turn his fortunes around.
Parrott’s spell at Stadium MK did not get off the best of starts but the striker has arguably been the League One club’s most consistent performer since the turn of the year.
The 20-year-old has demonstrated his technical quality, operating often as a number ten and proving to be the Dons’ main creative outlet.
The floodgates have now opened for the youngster over the last couple of months, with the goal in the 3-2 loss against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday coming as his ninth in all competitions, to go with the six assists he has notched up (Transfermarkt).
When asked about Parrott, Lewington told MK Citizen: “I have always had a good relationship with Troy. He makes some really good runs, and is easy to spot as a defender.
“Some players you can pick their runs early and with Troy, I got a feeling straight away where he would be going. He lends himself to those runs in behind and it’s good to see him finishing them off now.”
The Dons skipper praised Parrott for the hard work he put in during his lean spell earlier in the season, insisting the youngster is now a better player than he was when he arrived at the club last summer.
Lewington added: “He’s a hugely popular member of the team. When you’re coming down a level or two, you play through those bad spells, learn about yourself and what you have to do.
“All young players will experience that at some point, and Troy has knuckled down, he’s taken care of himself and is putting it in training. His form has come back, his goals have come back and he’s come back as a better player than he was at the start.”

Conte and his coaching staff would not know much of Parrott but the striker has a great opportunity to make a good first impression on them during pre-season.
At the very least, the 20-year-old has shown enough this season to suggest that he is ready to make a step up to a mid-table Championship team next campaign.
