According to Sky Sports’ transfer centre (at 10:55 am), Nottingham Forest are set to make a move for Tottenham target Djed Spence this summer after winning promotion to the top flight.
Spence has had an exceptional campaign on loan at Forest from Middlesbrough and previous reports have indicated that the 21-year-old is Tottenham’s top target for the right wing-back role (Football.London).
Forest will be back in the top flight for the first time in 23 years next season after they beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 in the play-off final at Wembley on Sunday.
Following the game, Spence was asked if he will be at the City Ground next season, to which he responded: “Hopefully” (NottinghamshireLive).
Sky Sports have now revealed that Forest are keen on signing the right-back permanently ahead of their foray into the Premier League next season.
The report claims that despite facing competition from the likes of Spurs, Bayern Munich and Brentford, Steve Cooper’s side are hopeful that they will be able to win the race for the youngster’s signature.
Fabrizio Romano has also offered an update on Spence’s future, claiming that Bayern Munich have dropped out of the race for the right-back after signing Noussair Mazraoui from Ajax.
The journalist states that Spurs remain interested in the England Under-21 international but adds that Antonio Conte’s side are yet to make an offer for the Boro starlet.
Spurs Web Opinion
Forest’s promotion certainly makes Tottenham’s pursuit of Spence harder as the youngster might now be keen on continuing his development at the City Ground.
However, one would expect Boro to sell to the highest bidder and we should be able to blow both Forest and Brentford out of the water.
It will be up to Spurs to convince the 21-year-old that he will get regular game time at the club next season.
