Specsavers have mocked Son Heung-min’s omission from the PFA Team of the Year for the 2021/22 season.
Son shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, after finishing the campaign with 23 goals (Transfermarkt), with the likes of Gary Neville even naming the Spurs star as his Player of the Season (Sky Sports).
However, quite unbelievably, the forward did not even make the PFA Team of the Year, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane, who notched up fewer goal contributions than the South Korean, making the cut ahead of him.
The 29-year-old was also previously overlooked for the nominations for the PFA Player of the Award, with the shortlist consisting of Ronaldo, Mane, Salah, Harry Kane, Kevin De Byrne and Virgil van Dijk.
Son’s absence from the Team of the Year has understandably got plenty of backlash on social media, not just from Spurs fans but from neutrals as well.
Son Heung-min scored more non-penalty goals than any other player during the 2021/22 Premier League season and he has NOT been included in the PFA Team of the Year.
Make it make sense.

Just had a look at the PFA Team of the Year for the Premier League. No Son Heung Min – the joint-Golden Boot winner and crucial to helping Spurs into the Champions League. Remarkable.

Heung-Min Son misses out on the PFA Team of the Year after winning the Golden Boot by scoring 23 non-penalty goals this season

No Heung Min Son in the PFA Player of the year nominees, that’s really embarrassing that.

Specsavers have now joked that their eyesight has to be checked in light of not being able to find Son’s name on the list
Our eyes are broken. Can’t see Son.

Spurs Web Opinion
One of the problems with the PFA award (certainly not the only one) is that the voting begins quite early, which means that those that do well in the final few months of the season do not tend to get as many votes as they should.
That is why the PFA Player of the Year and Team of the Year awards constantly end up looking quite embarrassing. The system has to be changed so that the players cast their vote at the end of the season after the final ball is kicked.
