The Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have already discussed a swap deal involving Giovani Lo Celso and Pau Torres with Villarreal.
According to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, Tottenham are not likely to sign their number one left centre-back target in Alessandro Bastoni this summer barring a ‘drastic change in circumstances’.
Torres is thought to be one of the alternatives Spurs have identified for the Inter star, with reports previously indicating that the Lilywhites could use Lo Celso as a makeweight in a deal to sign the Villarreal centre-back (Daily Mail).
The La Liga club’s president Fernando Roig revealed a few days ago that Lo Celso is keen to make a permanent move to El Madrigal following his successful loan spell at the club (El Periodico Mediterraneo).
However, he admitted that the Yellow Submarine cannot afford to sign the Tottenham man unless they sell players first.
Taylor has now revealed that Spurs are seriously considering Torres as an option for the left centre-back role and have proposed a part-exchange deal to Unai Emery’s side.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Torres has been the subject of initial swap-deal discussions with Villarreal because obviously, they want to sign Lo Celso on a permanent basis. Torres is left-footed and can play in a back-three as well.”

It looks like the Bastoni deal is unlikely to happen this summer, with Inter seemingly likely to sell Skriniar for big-money instead.
So, the most logical next choice would appear to be Torres, given that Paratici wanted to sign the Spaniard last summer as well.
Villarreal’s interest in Lo Celso should help Spurs get a favourable deal, and give them an advantage over other suitors like Man Utd.
