Speaking to Tottenham’s website, wing-back Matt Doherty has revealed what Spurs fans can expect from new forward Richarlison.
Richarlison joined Spurs from Premier League rivals Everton this week, signing a contract that runs until June 2027.
The 25-year-old is now an established player in England, having lined up for both Watford and Everton over the past five years. At the latter, he notably notched 53 goals and provided 14 assists over 152 appearances (TransferMarkt).
However, current Spurs man Matt Doherty has suggested that Richarlison has more to his game than just a consistent goal threat.
Doherty spoke of his excitement at the prospect of the work rate and versatility that the Brazilian will bring to his new club.
He said (Spurs Official): “He’s a very good player, very difficult to play against and has very good movement.
“I remember my first game for Tottenham was against Everton at home and he was playing off the left or as a striker so I know the problems that he can cause.
“Whenever you have a player who is right-footed and plays off the left – and I’m just speaking from my personal perspective – when a player can go inside and play as a number 10, can play out wide, can beat a man, it’s the worst thing to play against, so it’s very exciting for us.
“He’s versatile and that means a lot – he can pop up in any position, he’s calm, he keeps the ball well and knows how to find the back of the net.
“We’ve got a few of those players up front, so having another one now is great. He’s a top-class player and we’re very fortunate to have him now.”
The Irishman also outlined a particular fixture in which he felt Richarlison was the defining factor. This was an FA Cup game in which a double from Spurs’ new attacker inspired his team to a 5-4 victory over the Lilywhites.
Doherty added: “One match that comes to mind was the FA Cup game where he ran a lot and caused us a lot of problems, and that was probably the main reason they beat us in that game and got through.”

It is always great to get a first-hand insight into the havoc that your new signing can cause. It is even better knowing that Richy won’t get the chance to inflict more misery on Spurs anytime soon.
Having a player of Richarlison’s quality who is able to operate anywhere across the front three is a huge boost for Spurs’ depth and represents a serious statement of intent.
