In a study conducted by the Online Betting Guide, Tottenham Hotspur were found to be losing the most money every matchday last season due to an inability to fill their stadium (as relayed by Daily Star).
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium can seat 62,850 spectators, however, Spurs were unable to hit this mark which resulted in average losses of around £166,000 per matchday.
This comes despite Spurs offering supporters some of the cheapest home tickets in the league at just £20 to try and shift the seats.
Speaking to the Online Betting Guide, analyst Steve Smith surveyed the situation.
He said: “Despite building the impressive 1 billion project and offering the cheapest seats in England, Tottenham are failing to fill the ground, and are nowhere near hitting the capacity expected.
“Chairman Levy no doubt will be asking what more can they possibly do to lure fans to the ground.”
Levy will be hoping that the £150 million capital boost and their early activity in the transfer market will inspire fans to flock to N17 next season.
The Lilywhites were not the only London club who were reportedly losing out on income, however. Chelsea came in second on the list, with losses of around £154,000 per game.
Spurs Web Opinion
Speaking from my experiences, getting a ticket for a Spurs match at the new stadium for £20 is extremely rare. You are likely to pay upwards of £40 for a standard adult ticket on most matchdays.
Therefore, I feel like it is hard to read too much into this data, especially considering we have the second highest capacity stadium in the Prem (Statista).
