Son Heung-min has insisted that he will continue to work hard to become a world-class player after his father remarked that he is not there yet.
Son has been steadily improving every year since he joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2015.
The South Korean enjoyed the most productive season of his career in 2021/22, finishing with 23 goals in the Premier League which was enough to win the Golden Boot alongside Mohamed Salah.
The 29-year-old now has the distinction of being the only Asian player to win the award, and he has now arguably established himself as the best ever player from the continent.
In fact, the Spurs forward is now talked about as being one of the best players in the Premier League by pundits and fellow professionals (The Footballer’s Football Podcast via TBR Football).
However, Son’s father insisted last month that his son needs to do even better if he is to be considered a world-class player (CGTN).
Son has now agreed with his father’s comments and vowed to continue striving to get better.
He said (via 90 min): “It’s my father’s opinion and I agree with him. I have been trying to be ‘world class’, and a true ‘world class’ player wouldn’t have these debates, which means I still have space to [continue developing].”

It is well-documented that Son’s father is a disciplinarian and a hard task-master. So, his comments were likely intended to push Son to get even better over the coming years. Perhaps, it was due to this approach from his father that the 29-year-old has got to the level that he has.
