In his column for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson has given his thoughts on Tottenham’s transfer activity so far this summer.
Spurs have made a rapid start to the window, beginning with the free signings of backup goalkeeper Fraser Forster, and wing-back Ivan Perisic, before adding midfielder Yves Bissouma and forward Richarlison (Football.London).
The Lilywhites have also agreed a deal with Barcelona for the loan move of centre-back Clement Lenglet, which was confirmed late yesterday evening.
Further, the Telegraph claim that Spurs are edging closer to striking a deal with Middlesbrough for young wing-back Djed Spence.
If this final deal gets over the line, Antonio Conte will have received his reported wish of six new additions to his squad in problem positions (Mirror).
Former Arsenal striker, Ian Wright, has already admitted his worry at the prospect of Spurs next season whilst speaking on the Ringer FC podcast.
And now Merson has shared a similar viewpoint in his column for Sportskeeda: “Tottenham have had a very good transfer window so far. I’m not too sure about Richarlison, and I’d play Kulusevski ahead of him.
“They’re in the Champions League and have more games to play this season, so in that sense, Richarlison ticks a box.
“Yves Bissouma is an unbelievable signing for them. I’ve seen him boss the midfield for Brighton, and they aren’t nearly as consistent as Spurs. Djed Spence is a good signing, but the Championship is a completely different world to the Premier League.
“I’m a massive fan of Ivan Perisic. He’s a top-draw player, and he works his socks off. Antonio Conte knows him well, and the fans will love him because he’s a hard-working player.
“I think Tottenham have done a great job so far, and I’m afraid they’re in for a good season.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I am loving the way that this transfer window is panning out and I do feel as though there are some more surprises to come.
It’s always nice to see the red side of North London worried about Spurs’ progress. However, after five consecutive league finishes above them, Arsenal fans should be aware of the current trajectory at Spurs.
