Multiple publications are now reporting that Newcastle United have launched a second offer for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar this summer.
Reports over recent weeks have indicated that Spurs are on the lookout for a creative midfielder this summer (The Evening Standard), with Maddison said to be on the names on Antonio Conte’s wishlist (GiveMeSport).
However, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth reported over the weekend that it is Newcastle who had made the first move for the England international, with the Magpies said to have launched a £40m offer for the player, which was allegedly turned by the Foxes.
The Daily Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has now taken to social media to reveal that Newcastle have made a second offer in excess of £45m for Maddison.
The journalist added that Eddie Howe’s men believe the 25-year-old would be in favour of a switch to St James’ Park.
#nufc have made a second improved bid for Leicester City’s James Maddison today. Fee is in excess of £45m but payments are staggered. As I’ve said all along, they have been led to believe Maddison wants the move. We shall see. He might also want a new contract!!

Edwards’ claim about Newcastle’s second bid has also been backed up by Sky Sports, who assert that the value of the offer is around £50m. They add that Leicester would be open to selling Maddison for a fee of around £60m this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion
£60m for Maddison is arguably decent value in the current market and given that Leicester are seemingly not able to buy without selling, it does appear as if they would be open to cashing in on the 25-year-old.
In theory, Tottenham’s pursuit of Zaniolo should have no bearing on the Maddison interest as they are two completely different players. However, I do not think Spurs would be prepared to spend £50m-plus on the Leicester star if they snap up the Roma man in a big-money deal.
