Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has claimed Tottenham have the funds to sign James Maddison if they want him this summer but insisted he cannot see the North London club making a move for the Leicester City star.
Tottenham have already signed six players so far this summer, with Destiny Udogie expected to be the seventh player to join the club before returning to Udinese on loan for the current season (Football.London).
It has been suggested over recent weeks that Spurs are also on the lookout for a creative playmaker before the transfer window closes (Evening Standard).
Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel earlier this month that while Maddison is a player Tottenham admire, those he has been speaking to at the club have shot down the speculation linking the England international with a move to N17 this summer.
Bridge has now backed up Gold’s assertion, insisting that he has not heard anything credible regarding Spurs’ interest in the 25-year-old.
When asked if Tottenham could make a move for Maddison, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “Well, they’ve got the money to do it, I just have not heard anything regarding Tottenham and James Maddison.
“And I think there’s a bit of a debate going on with Spurs fans at the moment about Spurs needing some creativity. But Spurs don’t play with a 10, and their creativity will come in different ways in terms of Conte’s system. I don’t think he’ll come.”

The Maddison speculation seems to have emerged from Spurs fans on social media wanting the attacking midfielder desperately rather than any credible reports of Tottenham’s interest.
As Bridge points out, any attacking midfielder that Spurs sign is likely to have a bit-part role as Conte does not use a 3-5-2 too often. So, spending big on Maddison might not make sense for the club.
