Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham have now reopened negotiations with Leeds United over a potential deal for winger Dan James.
Reports first emerged a week ago suggesting that Spurs could make a shock move for James before the transfer window shuts (The Daily Mail).
The Sun’s Alan Nixon subsequently revealed on Patreon (as relayed by The Daily Express) that the North London club had made an official approach to sign the pacy winger on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
Romano has now taken to social media to state that Spurs are back in talks with Leeds over an initial loan deal for James.
The journalist explained that Antonio Conte’s men face competition for the former Manchester United man’s services.
Romano went on to add that the 24-year-old is happy at Elland Road and that Leeds are yet to make a final decision on his future.
He also made it clear that Spurs have not made any moves for Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech or Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco as things stand.
Tottenham are back in negotiations with Leeds for Daniel James. Been told talks are ongoing on loan deal with buy option — but there are also other clubs…

Up to the player, as he’s happy @ Leeds and has to decide.

Spurs Web Opinion
I see that many Spurs fans are underwhelmed by the idea of singing James and some are even furious at Daniel Levy for a lack of ambition.
The reality is that we are talking about a sixth-choice forward to replace Bryan Gil, and whoever we sign is likely to be limited to occasional appearances off the bench.
It is also worth remembering that Gil will return to Spurs next season and so, a loan signing would make more sense for the North London club than a permanent one.
