Journalist Richard Buxton has revealed that Tottenham’s Premier League fixture against Leicester City next Saturday is also expected to be postponed after the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Premier League officially confirmed today that all the fixtures this weekend, including Tottenham’s trip to Manchester City, have been postponed following the news that emerged from Buckingham Palace.
They added that a further announcement regarding the Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning (the next 10 days), will be provided shortly.
Buxton has now taken to social media to reveal that as things stand, the fixtures scheduled for Gameweek 7 are also expected to be called off in line with the Queen’s state funeral.
He revealed that the next available date to play any deferred matches is January 17/18, 2023.

If next weekend’s fixtures are called off, that will mean that Tottenham’s next Premier League match would be the North London derby at the Emirates on October 1.

Given the prestige with which many people in the UK hold the Royal Family, football or sport might the last thing on people’s minds at this time. So, one can certainly understand the decision to postpone matches.
However, it is worth remembering that we are in a unique season, given that the World Cup is set to be held in November. So, if multiple matches are called off, the fixture congestion in January and February will be a nightmare for Premier League clubs to deal with.
