The Premier League have officially confirmed that all the fixtures this weekend have been postponed following the sad demise of Queen Elizabeth II.
The nation is in a collective state of mourning after it emerged yesterday that Her Majesty had passed away aged 96.
It was revealed by The Athletic earlier today that the government had left the decision on whether to postpone the matches up to the Premier League.
It was explained that they had endorsed wearing black armbands and observing a minute of silence before the matches if the games were to go ahead.
However, the Premier League have confirmed that at a meeting this morning involving all 20 clubs, it was decided that his weekend’s fixtures will be called off as a sign of respect to Her Majesty.
They added that a further announcement regarding the Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning (the next 10 days), will be provided shortly.
As a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan has revealed that the Premier League clubs are also expected to be given a choice to postpone their European commitments this week by UEFA.
