According to The Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan, the Chief Executive of the Premier League, Richard Masters has told clubs that the government guidance is unlikely to be ‘definitive’ after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
The sad demise of her Majesty, the Queen, who was the longest serving monarch in British history, was announced on Thursday.
There will be 10 days of national mourning beginning today, with union flags set to be flown at half-mast on royal residences, government buildings and military establishments (The Independent).
The Premier League is expected to announce today whether this weekend’s fixtures, including Tottenham’s clash against Manchester City, will go ahead as planned (The Sun).
As things stand, the expectation is that all the fixtures over the next two days will be postponed.
Keegan has now revealed that the Premier League meeting to make the decision will be held at 11 am.
According to the journalist, Masters has already informed clubs that the Premier League will have to make their own decision regarding the postponement of this week’s fixtures since the government’s guidance is not likely to be definitive.
DCMS all sports call, following the Queen’s passing, at 0930. PL meeting at 1100. Richard Masters has told clubs that government guidance is unlikely to be ‘definitive’ and that they will have to make their own decisions with regards to fixtures.

Even if the government’s guidance is not definitive, one would expect the Premier League to call off the fixtures as a sign of respect for the Royal Family and her Majesty.
However, perhaps one or two stakeholders will point out the fixture congestion already this season and make an alternative proposal but I would be extremely surprised if the matches do go ahead.
