According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the likelihood of Daniel Levy bringing Mauricio Pochettino back as Tottenham Hotspur manager is low, and the chairman has never actually been keen on the idea.
Pochettino managed Tottenham from August 2014 to November 2019, winning 160 of his 293 games in charge (Transfermarkt). The popular manager led Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019, before losing to Liverpool on the night.
Sadly, things went downhill from there and Pochettino was sacked partway through the following season. Since then, the Argentinian has had a pretty tumultuous time in charge of PSG, before being sacked this summer.
In recent weeks, Pochettino has been linked to French side Nice but is reportedly keen on a return to the Premier League (ESPN). According to Estadio Deportivio, Pochettino has also been considered for the Sevilla job if the La Liga side departs with their current boss.
Now, as rumours surface around the future of current Spurs manager Antonio Conte (Calcio Mercato), Pochettino has been discussed as a possible replacement should the worst come to the worst and Conte does leave.
However, according to Ben Jacobs on the Done Deal Podcast, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is unlikely to make a move for Pochettino even if Conte does return to Juventus.
He said: “There are no guarantees. The irony of the merry-go-round is that Tottenham may go for Nagelsmann or they could go in a different direction. I think Pochettino to Spurs has had its day.
“There may have been possibilities in previous seasons, but Levy has never been a fan of going back to Pochettino, so why would he suddenly change his mind?”

As much as I loved the Mauricio Pochettino era at Spurs and wouldn’t necessarily be against seeing him return to North London, there’s also an argument to be made for moving on and not looking back.
We have one of the best managers in the world right now, and should be more focused on keeping Antonio Conte happy and achieving success here and now, rather than worrying about what could have been with a former manager.
