Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has praised the development of Ryan Sessegnon, as the young wing-back continues to impress with his on-field displays.
Sessegnon signed for Spurs in the summer of 2019 and was heralded as a hot prospect at the time. His progress since has been hindered by a string of injuries, but that looks to be behind him now.
The 22-year-old was in and out of Antonio Conte’s plans last season, but still managed to make 22 appearances across all competitions, providing two assists along the way (Transfermarkt).
This term, however, Sessegnon has established himself as a key player, offering a strong rotation option with Ivan Perisic in the left wing-back role. He has one goal in nine appearances in all competitions this season (Transfermarkt).
His form of late has prompted some to tip Sessegnon for a potential surprise call-up to the England senior squad ahead of the World Cup in Qatar this winter (iNews).
Sessegnon was in fine form again at the weekend and even earned the Man of the Match award in the 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday evening.
Speaking to the official club website after the match, Spurs boss Antonio Conte singled Sessegnon out for praise.
He said: “Sessegnon played a really good game, he showed that he is a reliable player, he’s a really young player but he’s improving a lot.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Ryan Sessegnon is finally fulfilling all that promise he arrived at Tottenham with all those years ago, and is well and truly flourishing under Antonio Conte. Not only is he looking really dangerous in attacking areas and making intelligent runs, but his defensive work is also improving.
There’s no doubt that Conte is sculpting Sessegnon into an accomplished wing-back, just as he has done for many others in the past. Ivan Perisic knows all about that, and his influence on Sessegnon is sure to be huge this season too.
