The Eintracht Frankfurt players have come under fierce criticism from the club’s manager, as well as their sporting director, ahead of their all-important clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
Frankfurt put in a battling display to hold Tottenham to a 0-0 draw at home last week, with the North Londoners’ sloppiness in the final third letting them down.
However, the German club have not had the best of preparations for their clash against Spurs in London this week as they followed up on the draw against the Lilywhites with an embarrassing 3-0 loss to Bochum at the weekend.
Bochum are rooted to the bottom of the Bundesliga table and had just a solitary point ahead of their game at the weekend against Frankfurt, which makes the result all the more humiliating for Tottenham’s Champions League opponents.
Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krosche did not mince his words, questioning the players’ attitude and focus during the match.
He told German publication Focus after the 3-0 loss: “Attitude, tackling values, footballing skills – something was missing from everything. We weren’t present or focused enough from the start. We weren’t good, we weren’t there.”
Manager Oliver Glasner also expressed his frustration at the result and took the blame for his side’s poor display.
He was quoted as saying: “We deserved to lose. I take 100% responsibility for this defeat. It was my lineup and my system. A lot of things didn’t fit.
“We had the chance to take the lead at 0-0, later a shot hit the post and an offside goal. We conceded three goals from set pieces. Bitter.”
Spurs Web Opinion
This is certainly not ideal preparation for Frankfurt coming into the game on Wednesday but Spurs must not be expecting an easy game.
We have seen time and again that teams can take their eye off the ball in their domestic league when they play some big Champions League games.
One would expect Frankfurt to give their all at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they will also want to respond to the result over the weekend.
