Italian journalist Massimo Brambati has suggested that Juventus may have missed out on their chance to appoint Antonio Conte as Tottenham are determined to tie him down to a new contract.
Conte’s current contract with Tottenham runs out at the end of the season but Alasdair Gold said last month that the North London club have the option to extend the 53-year-old’s contract any time they wish (Football.London).
However, reports from Italy over recent weeks have indicated that Conte is open to returning to Juventus when his contract with Spurs runs out at the end of the season, which is why he is reluctant to extend his deal (Calciomercato).
Football Insider revealed just a couple of days ago that Spurs are set to offer their head coach a new contract worth more than £20million-a-year, which would make the Italian the highest-paid manager in the Premier League.
The report added that Tottenham want a contract formalised before the January transfer window begins.
Brambati has now played down Juve’s chances of bringing the Spurs boss back to the Allianz Stadium.
He told TMW Radio (as relayed by Il Bianconero): “I would have focused and would still focus on Antonio Conte, to whom I would give the keys to Juve.
“Unfortunately, the most serious mistake of the Juventus club was not to bet, out of pride and for reasons of principle, on the Lecce coach. In London, they saw him working and are realizing who they have their hands on.”
He also added: “Tottenham are about to lock him down” (via SportWitness 11/10/22).
Spurs Web Opinion
I honestly believe that Conte recognises that winning another Serie A title or two with Juventus, might not do as much for his legacy as building a team at Spurs and guiding the North London club to a trophy.
The 53-year-old seems fully committed to the Lilywhites and I do not expect him to leave without finishing the job that he has started.
