Antonio Conte has admitted that Tottenham do give up some control in the middle of the park by lining up with a 3-4-3 but insisted that the extra forward player makes the side more dangerous in the final third.
Although Conte did start with a 3-5-2 against Brighton last week, the Spurs boss has kept faith in his tried and tested 3-4-3 formation for all other matches this season.
Tottenham have made a solid start to the season, having accumulated 20 points in their first nine Premier League games and also sit at the top of their Champions League group.
Antonio Conte’s men have scored 25 goals in the 13 games that they have played in all competitions so far this season but the Lilywhites have still come under criticism for their conservative approach (talkSPORT)
Some pundits have questioned if Tottenham’s midfielder offers them enough creativity and control (BBC MOTD).
Conte has now acknowledged that playing a two-man midfield does affect the team’s ability to keep the ball but he insisted that Spurs have found the right balance between defence and attack.
He also admitted that he had doubts about playing Kane, Son, and Richarlison together in the same starting XI at first.
The Spurs boss told Football.London: “I think when we play with three strikers, you have to know that your type of game is more direct. Not with a lot of possession because you have three strikers, only two midfielders.
“On one side, you control the game less but on another side, you know you have three strikers with Sonny, Harry and Richarlison. With the rest of the team, we have to put them in the best situation to score.
“Honestly, at the start, I had some doubts about the balance to put three strikers like Richy, Harry and Sonny, because you know very well you have to attack, but at the same time, it’s important to have a good balance if you want to be competitive.
“At the start, I had some doubts to put them all together, but then when it happened, I had always a great answer about Richy, Sonny and Kane because we are talking about three strikers, but three strikers who work a lot for the team.
“This is why I think we can play with these three strikers because they give us a lot of potential offensively, but at the same time, defensively, we have a good balance.”

While results suggest that the 3-4-3 is working, we have looked a much better side whenever Conte has opted to shift to a 3-5-2, including the final 30 minutes of the clash against Leicester and in our 1-0 win at the Amex Stadium.
