Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has suggested that Tottenham may view the mid-season break for the World Cup as an ideal time to begin talks with Antonio Conte regarding a new contract and he would prefer a longer-term deal.
Conte’s current deal at Tottenham runs out at the end of the season, but the Italian insisted last month that he is in no rush to extend his deal and that he does not need a new contract in order to feel committed to the club (Football.London).
Football Insider reported last week that Spurs are expected to offer a contract worth more than £20million-a-year to the 53-year-old, which would make him the highest-paid manager in the Premier League.
The report suggests that the Tottenham hierarchy are now ‘increasingly confident’ of securing an agreement with their head coach.
This was followed up by a report in The Telegraph earlier in the week, suggesting that the North London club are expected to begin talks with the Italian next month.
That claim has now been backed up by Gold, who stated in his latest article on Football.London that the break for the World Cup represents ‘the perfect time’ for all sides to sit down and hold talks without any distractions.
He added that Spurs will have to decide if they simply want to trigger the option to extend Conte’s contract or if they want to offer the Italian a new longer-term deal.
The journalist revealed that those close to the Tottenham head coach suggest that he would be keen on the latter.

It does seem like Spurs are planning to hold discussions with Conte during the World Cup and I am optimistic that he will sign a new deal as long as he gets some assurances that his vision will be backed, which I fully expect to be granted by Paratici and Levy.
