Reacting to Antonio Conte’s post-match interview after Tottenham’s win over Everton, Tim Sherwood has argued that the Italian should not pay heed to what others think about his team’s style of play.
Tottenham have had their best-ever start to a Premier League season after ten matches, currently sitting level on points with Manchester City (23).
The Lilywhites also have a perfect record at home in all competitions, having won their last ten matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, despite Spurs’ impressive results, some pundits continue to question their approach and whether their current run is sustainable if the North Londoners do not show more ambition (ESPN FC).
Sherwood insisted that Conte should not be bothered if people suggest that Tottenham’s style of play is not entertaining to watch. The pundit suggested that the Spurs fans will be on board with his approach as long as the team continue to win matches.
The former interim Spurs boss told Premier League Productions (15/10/22 at 7:45 pm): “He (Conte) referenced the crowd and that they would enjoy that performance. That tells me that he’s taking note. He’s listening to the noise.
“Not that he’s trying to change the way the team plays but he’s trying to convince everyone that this is quite entertaining.
“But if I was Antonio Conte, then I wouldn’t bother about wasting my energy on that. I would just continue to win and that will keep everyone happy.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I can understand the questions raised about the sustainability of Tottenham’s form, given our style of play. However, I personally reject the notion that we are boring to watch.
I find the aggression with which we defend to be enthralling, and I completely disagree with the idea that only possession-based football is beautiful to watch.
