Tottenham Hotspur put in arguably their most uninspiring performance of the season this evening against Manchester United, losing 2-0 at Old Trafford.
Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:
Hugo Lloris – 8 – Yes, he had a nervy moment early in the game where he spilt a shot out for a corner, but boy did he make some saves to keep Spurs in the game in the first half. The one’s from Rashford in particular were top draw.
Matt Doherty – 5 – Got some joy down the right in one spell during the first-half, but offered nothing after that. Turned into more of a right-back in a flat back five in the end.
Cristian Romero – 5 – Started off as Tottenham’s best defender as he was actually showing some fight and winning challenges, but he was all over the place in the second half and got caught out a number of times.
Eric Dier – 4 – He has been so consistent under Conte but this was perhaps his worst game. Too many mistakes under pressure, including the chest down that led to a Man United goal.
Ben Davies – 3 – All over the place on the left this evening and had a torrid time up against the likes of Antony. Davies was beaten defensively too many times and also lacked quality on the ball.
Ivan Perisic – 5 – Same pattern as Doherty. He got into good areas at times in the first half, but became a left-back in the second. He at least delivered some decent crosses at times and showed composure with chests back into Lloris’ hands.
Rodrigo Bentancur – 4 – You associate Bentancur with composure and tidy passing on the ball. That was completely absent tonight. It was like he was always half a yard away from where he wanted to be, and was out-fought by the Man United midfield.
Yves Bissouma – 3 – You can see why Conte is hesitant about starting him too much yet. His first touch bounced off him this evening and Yves gave the ball away so many times. Yes, he fought well and won the ball at times, but it simply was not good enough.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 3 – Tottenham’s most consistent player this season, but was absolutely lost out there today. Out of position off the ball and wasteful beyond belief on it.
Harry Kane – 5 – Felt a little sorry for him because he used the ball really well at times in the first half, dropping deep and spraying some lovely balls out wide. But he was feeding off scraps for 70 minutes of the game.
Heung-min Son – 3 – Sonny was barely involved in the match at all tonight. He was there to get on the shoulder and run in behind, but Spurs never really got in a position to play a meaningful ball in the final third, so that was redundant. Not all his fault, of course.
Substitutes:
Lucas Moura – N/A – This goes for all the subs below… at least they showed some fight.
Davinson Sanchez – N/A
Ryan Sessegnon – N/A
Oliver Skipp – N/A
Djed Spence – N/A
