Inews reveal that Tottenham Hotspur have the lowest success rate in the Premier League when it comes to pressures across the whole pitch.
Back-to-back defeats against Manchester United and Newcastle United over recent days have raised alarm bells at Tottenham after a decent start to the season.
Inews have taken a look at how Spurs rank in some key metrics and it makes for some concerning reading.
When it comes to the pressures metric, which measures how often a team applies pressure to an opposing player carrying, receiving or releasing the ball, Tottenham do extremely poorly.
The report reveals that Conte’s men rank 14th for pressures in the final third and in 20th place when it comes to the success rate for pressures across the whole pitch.
However, the Lilywhites do well when it comes to pressures in their own third, ranking in third place in that metric.
More concerningly, Spurs have faced 187 shots on their goal in their opening 12 matches, a total that is level with 20th-placed Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham have the sixth-best expected goals against (xGa) total in the Premier League, which suggests that they tend to mostly restrict the opposition to low-percentage shots from distance.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham have never been a high-pressing side under Antonio Conte and so, I think these numbers are very much by design. However, the fact that our xGa is sixth best seems to suggest that our results are not sustainable if we keep allowing the volume of shots per game that we currently do.
