Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham target Alessandro Bastoni will not be leaving Inter Milan during the January transfer window.
There was plenty of speculation linking Bastoni with a move to Spurs during the summer transfer window (Football.London) and the speculation has now once again resurfaced ahead of January.
Inter Live claimed last week that Antonio Conte is keen on reuniting with the centre-back and that the Lilywhites are ready to pay €50m (£43.7m) for the 23-year-old’s services.
Fichajes subsequently suggested that while Spurs are keen on snapping up Bastoni, the North Londoners could face competition from both Manchester City and Real Madrid, who are allegedly eyeing a deal for the defender.
The Daily Mirror’s Darren Lewis stated on The Kelly & Wrighty Show (via CaughtOffside) a few days ago that Tottenham could convince Antonio Conte to sign a new contract by promising a move for the Inter defender.
While Romano believes that the Tottenham head coach will want to reunite with Bastoni, he insisted that the player will not leave the San Siro mid-season.
He told Caught Offside: “Sorry Tottenham fans, but I have no news on Alessandro Bastoni right now; he has a long-term contract with Inter and he won’t leave in January, despite speculation to the contrary.
“Bastoni is a top player and it makes sense that the Antonio Conte link keeps coming up, but, honestly, I don’t see this as an easy deal for Spurs.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The deal will certainly not be easy to do as Bastoni will likely be on the radar of several of Europe’s big hitters next summer. I am hopeful that the Conte factor will give Spurs an advantage over other suitors, given how highly the centre-back speaks of the 53-year-old.
