Journalist Dean Jones has predicted that James Maddison would find it hard to turn down a potential switch to Tottenham in the near future.
Despite Leicester’s struggles this season, Maddison’s reputation has only grown even further, with the attacking midfielder having registered eight goal contributions in 11 Premier League appearances so far (Transfermarkt).
Football Insider reported last month that Maddison, whose current deal at the King Power Stadium runs out in 2024, is keen on moving to a Champions League club as he wants to test himself at the highest level.
The report added that Spurs are keeping ‘close tabs’ on the 25-year-old’s situation ahead of the January transfer window and asserted that the Leicester star would ‘jump at the chance’ to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Jones has now revealed that Maddison has been on Tottenham’s wishlist previously and that he expects the North London club to explore a move for the England international in January.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think that Maddison is one of the players that we’ll be hearing about in terms of Tottenham’s transfer pursuits.
“They’ve looked at it before, it’s been a tricky one, but Maddison clearly would be interested in a transfer I think in the pretty near future, and it’d be hard to turn down a proposition like Tottenham.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I am sceptical about whether Conte will want a player of Maddison’s profile as I do not see him as a natural fit for the Italian system.
I do expect Spurs to be in the market for a midfielder in January to replace Pape Sarr, who will likely be loaned out.
However, I suspect the Italian will want a player in the mould of Weston McKennie, who has a good engine and is tactically astute.
