Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has admitted that it is physically and mentally draining to play every three days but called on his teammates to approach each game as if it is their last one.
The schedule this season has been more hectic than any other campaign in the past, owing to the World Cup being held in the middle of the campaign.
As a result, teams like Tottenham have had to play two games almost every week since the start of the season and that has taken its toll on the players, with the North Londoners having several stars on the treatment table at present.
In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Antonio Conte labelled the schedule as ‘crazy’ and called on the authorities to stop paying lip service to player welfare when they clearly do not back it up with action (Football.London).
Hojbjerg has played almost every single game for Tottenham so far this season and the midfielder will also be expected to be a feature in all of Denmark’s games in Qatar.
While the 27-year-old did not play down the difficulty of playing so many matches, he insisted that the players have to learn to cope with it by focusing on one at a time.
Hojbjerg told Tottenham’s official website about the schedule: “It’s exciting, it’s hard, it’s wrong to say it’s not, but it’s exciting.
“Games come left and right, and you have to cope with that mentally, physically, emotionally and it’s something that if you take the right way, you can grow a lot.
“The same stands for everyone. Most important is to play every game as if it’s the only one, to take three points, and then on to the next one. I feel okay, feel good, excited every time we play, so far, so good.”
Spurs Web Opinion
FIFA have shown absolutely no consideration for the well-being of the players and it proves once again that the governing bodies only care about their bottom line.
That is why I find it funny when UEFA get on their high horse about the Super League when in reality they are happy to expand the Champions League, despite what it means to player welfare, as it will help them make more money.
