Antonio Conte has admitted that he is delighted to have Dejan Kulusevski back at his disposal and opened up on how challenging it has been to cope without so many key players over the last few weeks.
Tottenham are still without Cristian Romero and Richarlison while Kulusevski and Lucas Moura were only fit enough to make the bench against Liverpool.
The Swede, who had not featured since the international break in September, made an instant impact when he came on in the 68th minute against the Reds, setting up Harry Kane’s goal two minutes later.
Although Tottenham fell to their second successive loss at home in the Premier League on Sunday, Conte admitted that it is a boost to have Kulusevski back.
When asked about Spurs fans being delighted to see the winger back on the field, the Italian told Football.London: “The fans were happy but I was first to be happy.
“Kulusevski, he missed a lot and Moura missed a lot. Richarlison is missing a lot. Now we lost Sonny. When a club like Tottenham loses all these important players it’s not like the other clubs.”
Conte also remarked that Tottenham’s squad has been really stretched over the last few weeks and pointed towards the general progress the Lilywhites have made over the past 12 months since he arrived at the club.
He added: “I hear someone say every team has injuries, yes but it depends which players you have injured. Tottenham can’t afford to lose all these important players. I think so. If you ask me whether we are able to manage the situation I think we are doing this.
“We are managing the situation in the best possible way. We finished Champions League first [in the group] and for many people that was normal despite last season, Conference League we dropped out in the group.
“I think that we have to be calm and assess very well the situation of Tottenham and see what the situation was one year ago. Otherwise, I repeat we risk losing enthusiasm and passion.
“We have to know that to stay in this position now there is a project, there is a vision, the club knows very well the way to try to improve, but we have to be enthusiastic, everybody, because for me if I don’t find the passion and enthusiasm , ok we can work a lot but for me the passion and enthusiasm is my fuel. I need to have this. It’s very, very important for me.”

Despite Tottenham’s poor results over the last few weeks, the performances have been quite decent, given the number of key players we have been without. Kulusevski has undoubtedly been the player who we have missed the most as the Swede adds a different dimension to our attack, with his ability to carry the ball.
