The Sun have revealed that Newcastle United could enter the race for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram, who is said to be on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.
Thuram, who is now in Qatar as part of France’s World Cup squad, has scored 13 goals in the first part of the season but his current deal at Borussia Park runs out at the end of the season (Transfermarkt).
90 min reported earlier this week that Antonio Conte is keen on signing an attacker in January, with the Lilywhites said to have identified the Gladbach star as a potential option.
The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (17/11/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) claimed a few days ago that it is not just Spurs who have pushed ahead with a move for Thuram but their North London rivals Arsenal are also ‘working on the operation’.
The publication added that Inter Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Marseille were all eyeing a move for the forward in January and it was asserted that Gladbach would be willing to sell the 25-year-old for €10m (£8.7m) to avoid losing him for free next summer.
If The Sun’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs could also face competition from Newcastle for Thuram’s signature when the transfer window opens.
The report states that Antonio Conte’s men are ‘keen’ on the Frenchman but the Magpies are also weighing up a potential bid for the forward in order to boost their chances of finishing in the top four.
Spurs Web Opinion
Spurs would still be a more attractive proposition for most players than Newcastle but Thuram would have a better chance of getting regular game time at St James’ Park than he would at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That could potentially be a factor for the 25-year-old when making a decision on his next destination.
