Ivan Perisic has admitted that Inter Milan will always have a special place in his heart and that he still considers the club to be his ‘home’.
Perisic moved to Inter from Wolfsburg back in the summer of 2015 and spent six years at the club, which was interrupted by a temporary loan spell at Bayern Munich during the 2019-20 campaign.
From an individual standpoint, the Croat undoubtedly enjoyed the best years of his career at the San Siro and after a long wait, he tasted silverware at the club under Antonio Conte during the 2020-21 season as the Nerazzurri won the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia.
He eventually left the Serie A giants to join Tottenham in the summer and has made a solid start to life at the North London club, with seven assists across all competitions in the first part of the campaign (Transfermarkt).
Perisic has now admitted that he misses Inter and Italy, having stayed in the city of Milan for such a long time.
The 33-year-old told Gazzetta Dello Sport: “I miss it a bit, Inter and Italy will always be my home. All in all, Milan and your country are the places I’ve stayed the longest in my life as a footballer.”
However, he pointed out that he will be back in the city soon enough, with Spurs set to take on the Rossoneri in the round of 16 stage of the Champions League.
Perisic added: “Well, a little, but I’ll be back soon and I’ll have something important to do. The Champions League against Milan awaits me.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Even though Perisic’s numbers are excellent, we arguably have not seen the best of him in a Spurs shirt consistently yet, partly owing to the injury he was carrying at the start of the campaign. I expect the Croat to be much more effective in the second half of the season and I can see him getting close to 20 goal contributions over the course of 2022-23.
