Journalist Ben Browning has shared a report detailing how many minutes have been played by the outfield players of the Premier League’s big six teams at this year’s World Cup so far.
The 2022 World Cup is unlike any other, in that it has taken place right in the middle of the domestic season. Due to the extreme temperatures in the host nation of Qatar, the decision was made to host the tournament during the winter months rather than the standard summer schedule.
It remains to be seen just how disruptive that decision will be to the Premier League campaign, but the first half of the season saw teams involved in European competitions playing three times a week, and many players picking up injuries before the World Cup.
Spurs are one of those teams who endured a hectic run of fixtures in the first half of the season. The North London club have 12 players competing at the World Cup, and all eyes are on those players and their fitness levels as the tournament progresses.
The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Ben Davies will be returning home soon after Denmark and Wales failed to make it through the group stages. Heung-min Son and Rodrigo Bentancur could join them, if South Korea and Uruguay bow out tomorrow, too.
The figures from Browning, which do not include stoppage time, reveal Tottenham’s outfield players have played 1624 minutes between them so far at the World Cup.
Manchester City are the big six team with the most minutes, clocking a huge 2327 minutes, while Manchester United come in second with 1790. Chelsea are close behind Spurs with a total of 1489 minutes.
Meanwhile, as Browning comments, things are “looking good for Arsenal and Liverpool at the moment.” That’s because Liverpool players have registered just 771 minutes so far, while Arsenal are bottom of the pile with 612 minutes from their outfield players.

Spurs Web Opinion
I don’t think Spurs fans should be too worried by the number of minutes our players have put in at the World Cup just yet, but I do hope that Harry Kane in particular doesn’t over-exert himself. The fact that Arsenal players haven’t contributed as much just shows the different levels our players operate on, clearly.
