The print edition of Corriere Dello Sport (05/12/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) has revealed that Tottenham could snap up Denzel Dumfries in January and loan him back to Inter Milan until the end of the season.
Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a new right wing-back in January (90 min), and Dumfries, who has been one of the standout wing-backs on show at the World Cup, is alleged to be one of the names on the North London club’s radar.
Reports from Italy over recent weeks have revealed that Spurs and Chelsea are set to battle it out for the Netherlands international’s signature (TuttoSport).
According to CalcioMercato, Inter believe that the 26-year-old’s value has peaked as a result of his performance against the USA and the Serie A club are looking to sell the right-back for four times the fee (£11.2m) they paid to sign him from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of last year.
Corriere have now backed up the previous claims regarding Spurs and Chelsea being the two frontrunners for Dumfries’ signature.
However, they also suggest that Fabio Paratici could look to ‘repeat’ the formula of the Destiny Udogie deal by signing the Frenchman and loaning him back to Simone Inzaghi’s side until the end of the season.
It is explained that this formula could work for the Lilywhites as Inter would be reluctant to lose Dumfries midway into the campaign.
Spurs Web Opinion
Spurs fans should take this Corriere report with a pinch of salt as most reports from Italy seem to suggest that Inter would be happy to cash in on Dumfries and sign a cheaper replacement in January.
Besides, I do not think the prospect of loaning the 26-year-old back to the San Siro would appeal to Tottenham as Conte will be keen on upgrading at right wing-back in January.
