Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are both interested in AC Milan defender, Pierre Kalulu, according to a report from CalcioMercato.
The Serie A giants reportedly value Kalulu at around £44m, with the defender predominantly playing at right-back, but also having experience covering in central defence.
It is even mentioned that Tottenham could look at using Japhet Tanganga as a potential makeweight in any deal, considering AC Milan’s fond feelings towards the Englishman.
Tottenham have struggled at right-wing-back over the past 12 months, with Emerson Royal seemingly being Antonio Conte’s first choice in the role, despite his lack of goals and assists.
Matt Doherty has been in fine form during the mid-season break, scoring three goals in his last two games against Motherwell and Peterborough U21s. Meanwhile, Djed Spence has also been in action, although he is yet to start a competitive game for the Lilywhites.
It should be noted that reports in the summer also spoke of Tottenham’s interest in the 22-year-old Kalulu (Il Giornale via MilanNews).
Spurs Web Opinion:
I don’t know much about Kalulu, but generally when you have a right-back who can also play at centre-back, they are not the ideal candidates for an attacking right-wing back role. Look at Ben Davies as an example on the left.
