Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that while Antonio Conte has big plans for Cristian Romero, he also sets extremely high standards for the Argentine.
Romero wrote his name in the history books on Sunday, helping Argentina lift the World Cup after 36 years.
The centre-back put in a typically aggressive and commanding performance in the final as the Albiceleste overcame Les Blues in a penalty shootout after the game finished 3-3 after extra time.
Gold explains that while Romero might return to Hotspur Way with his head in the clouds, Antonio Conte will be waiting to bring him back down to earth.
The journalist states that the Tottenham head coach loves the aggression and the nasty steak that the 24-year-old possesses as he wants to build a squad of hungry winners. However, Conte also is thought to want Romero to develop more discipline and control his aggression in a better manner.
Gold points out that the 53-year-old has publicly spoken about the fact that the centre-back needs to avoid getting so many bookings.
The journalist adds that the Tottenham boss sees Romero as a ‘mouldable defender’ and someone who has the attributes to become one of the best in the world.
Conte is said to be determined to help the former Atalanta man turn into a ‘world-class’ defender in addition to now being a world champion.

Conte had a similar personality to Romero during his playing days and the Italian will thus understand better than most what makes the Argentine tick. The 24-year-old showed again in the World Cup that he is a nightmare for attackers to play against when he is at his best.
