Destiny Udogie has said that he remains fully focussed on improving different aspects of his game and spoke about his dream of representing the Azzuri in the future.
Tottenham’s decision to loan Udogie back to Udinese is proving to be the right one, with the youngster continuing to get regular game time under his belt and improve both defensively and in the final third.
The 20-year-old has three goal contributions this season in 11 Serie A appearances (Transfermarkt) and will be hoping to add to the tally when the campaign resumes.
Udogie might have his work cut out when he returns to Spurs next season, potentially having to compete with Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon for the left wing-back spot, and the youngster expressed his determination to continue progressing as a player.
When asked which areas of the game he needs to improve in, the Udinese man told Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Football Italia): “In everything, I am young, but I must still understand many things about this sport, what I need on the pitch in certain moments.”
When asked about working with Andrea Sottil, Udogie responded: “I like him because he has a clear identity, he is a direct person and tells you clearly what he wants so everyone follows him.”
The youngster has represented Italy from Under-16s through to the Under-21s, for whom he has been capped six times over the past 12 months.
Udogie was asked if he hopes to break into Roberto Mancini’s set-up soon, to which he said: “I hope so, I am quite calm, I think I’ll get a chance if I continue like this, I’ve always been called up in the youth teams.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Udogie comes across as quite mature for his age. His comments about wanting to improve every aspect of his game, would be music to Conte’s years, given the emphasis the Italian puts on hard work and having the right attitude.
