The Sun claim that Edouard Mendy, who has allegedly been offered to Tottenham Hotspur, has turned down Chelsea’s latest contract offer.
Tottenham are thought to be on the lookout for a replacement for Hugo Lloris ahead of next summer’s transfer window, with the likes of Yann Sommer (GiveMeSport), Jordan Pickford (TMW) and Emi Martinez (GiveMeSport) being mooted as targets for the North London club over recent weeks.
Another name who was previously put forward was Mendy, with 90 min reporting last month that the Chelsea shot-stopper had been offered to the Lilywhites.
The 30-year-old has lost the number one shirt to Kepa Arrizabalaga this season, and The Sun now claim that he has snubbed Chelsea’s latest proposal of a six-year deal.
The report states that the Senegal international feels the Blues are not showing him enough “respect” over wages. The former Rennes star, who earns £100,000 per week, allegedly wants parity with Kepa, who is said to earn almost twice that amount.
The Sun add that Chelsea have now withdrawn their initial contract offer to Mendy and there is a ‘stand-off’ between the two parties.
Spurs Web Opinion
Even if Mendy does not sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge and is available for a cut-price fee, Spurs will likely steer well clear of him. Antonio Conte would be looking for a goalkeeper of a much higher calibre to take over the number-one shirt from Lloris.
