According to a report from 90 Min, Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie is open to the idea of a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur after reports suggested the club had made a bid for him.
Hincapie joined Leverkusen in the summer of 2021 after spending his career in South America, and has quickly become one of the most capable and highly-rated centre-halves in world football.
He has 53 appearances for the Bundesliga club to his name, with three goals and one assist in that time (Transfermarkt).

Spurs have been following the Ecuadorian’s progress for some time and were told by Leverkusen that they must pay £34 million to secure his services (The Sun). The North London side reportedly made an offer of €25 million (£21.9 million) for Hincapie over the weekend (BILD).
It’s believed Spurs had hoped to agree a deal for the player now, with a view to completing the move in the summer. However, the latest reports suggest the German club are asking for €75 million (£66 million) in order to facilitate any transfer.
The reason for this valuation, according to BILD, is that “Leverkusen have no desire to sell midway through the season.” Despite this, it is thought the 21-year-old is very keen on the idea of a switch to Spurs and it remains to be seen whether Hincapie’s preference will be taken into account.
Spurs Web Opinion
It looks very unlikely that we will be able to get this transfer done during the January transfer window, but it’s a promising sign that we are at least entering discussions for Hincapie. He would be one of my number one choices to improve our defensive options and sounds like a realistic target.
That high price tag Leverkusen have put on his head is surely just a deterrent to keep him at the club until the end of the season, at which point you’d hope an offer in the region of £35 million would be enough.
