Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has ruled out the possibility of Piero Hincapie leaving Bayer Leverkusan before this evening’s transfer deadline, amidst reports linking the centre-back with a move to Tottenham.

Bild reported on Sunday that Spurs had submitted a verbal offer of €25m (£21.9m) to Leverkusen for the young defender.

Tottenham’s interst in Hincapie was also backed up by Nicolo Schira, who claimed that the centre-back had agreed on personal terms on a five-year contract with the Lilywhites ahead of a potential transfer.

However, Alasdair Gold poured cold water over these reports over the weekend, explaining that while Hincapie is on Spurs’ radar, he is only likely to be on the move on the summer (Football.London).

In his latest Q&A on Football.London yesterday, Gold explained that Spurs are likely to put off strengthening at centre-back until the summer and revealed that Antonio Conte’s men are looking to sign a left-sided central defender as well as a right-sided one at the end of the season.

Plettenberg has now taken to social media to reveal that there is no truth to reports about a Tottenham offer for Hincapie.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that we are already at the limit of non-homegrown players for the Champions League, the speculation about our interest in Hincapie did not make any sense.  However, it does seem like the Ecuadorian has become Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role for next summer, ahead of Alessandro Bastoni.
