The north Londoners have been linked with a move for the Spanish international for what feels like the whole of the January transfer window and now finally have their man.
The move was thrown into doubt on Monday after Sporting changed their mind on the deal by asking for more money, despite Porro having said his goodbyes to their supporters after Saturday’s cup final defeat to FC Porto.
Further talks helped to revive the deal and he jetted into Luton airport in the early hours of Tuesday morning on a flight from Lisbon (Simon Stone).
The Evening Standard had previously reported that Sporting were only prepared to sanction the sale of the right wing-back if his full £40 million buyout clause was met.
Porro joined Sporting from Manchester City for £7m last summer after two years on loan at the Portuguese club (The Sun).
The 23-year-old made 98 appearances across all competitions during his time at Sporting, scoring 12 goals and providing 20 assists (transfermarkt).
He becomes Tottenham’s second January signing after winger Arnaut Danjuma joined on loan from Villarreal until the end of the season. Danjuma made an impressive start to life at Spurs having scored on his debut in Saturday’s FA Cup win at Preston North End.
Porro’s place in the Sporting side is expected to be taken by former Arsenal player Hector Bellerin, who is currently at Barcelona (Daily Mail).

Porro will add some natural width to the right hand side of the Spurs defence and more importantly, be able to deliver balls into the penalty area for the likes of Harry Kane to get themselves on the end of, something which has been desperately lacking this season.
Antonio Conte’s tactical set-up heavily relies on the contribution of his wing-backs and it would be fair to say that both Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have not done enough when given the opportunity to make the position their own.
The Spaniard was excellent against Spurs in the Champions League earlier this season across both legs with Sporting having beaten the north Londoners in the group stage fixture in Portugal and also played out a draw in north London.
