Emanuele Cammaroto has discussed the future of Tanguy Ndombele in his latest column for Napoli Magazine, and suggested Napoli may look for a discount on the player in the summer despite there being a pre-arranged fee in the loan move.

Ndombele joined Tottenham from Lyon in the summer of 2019 for a club-record fee believed to be around £63 million (Sky Sports). With the big price tag came big expectations, but sadly the Frenchman has never lived up to the hype.

The 26-year-old racked up 91 appearances for Spurs, scoring ten goals and providing nine assists (Transfermarkt). He found himself out of favour under Antonio Conte and, after a loan spell back at Lyon last year, was sent on loan to Napoli for the 2022/23 season.

According to Il Mattino (via Forza Azzurri), Napoli do want to make the move permanent. In mid-January, Foot Mercato reported talks were set to take place between the Serie A side and Spurs around this matter.

Journalist Ben Jacobs told the Last Word on Spurs podcast that it is still uncertain whether the option to buy clause as part of the loan arrangement, thought to be set at €30 million (£26.4 million), will be activated by Napoli.

The latest from Cammaroto suggests Napoli are looking to “confirm the current group” of players ahead of next season and are “waiting for this second part of the season to draw conclusions” on Ndombele in particular.

Cammaroto adds that whatever happens, Napoli “do not intend to pay €25m” to Spurs to make Ndombele a permanent signing and could be “thinking of asking for a discount” on the player. There is also a chance that “the loan could be renewed,” rather than a full transfer.

I think as long as we get at least £20 million for Ndombele we should just cut our losses and let him go. He’s never going to work out for us, and we just need to cash in while we can.
