Tottenham Hotspur’s inconsistency reared its ugly head again this afternoon as the Lilywhites followed up their 1-0 win over Man City with a 4-1 defeat to Leicester City.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Fraser Forster – 4 – He will probably get a lot of stick considering Spurs conceded four in his first game taking over from Lloris, but it wasn’t like there were any howlers in there. He was a victim of his defence, in many ways.

Pedro Porro – 3 – Was largely anonymous throughout the match as Spurs struggled to progress down the right. Defensively and positionally he was all over the place in his Premier League debut. You can’t look into it too much though, and the only way is up from that performance.

Japhet Tanganga – 3 – A shocking performance from Tanganga as he once again wasted a chance to shine in the absence of Cristian Romero. Conte gave him the nod over Sanchez, but Tanganga was a liability. His positioning along the back line caused so many problems today.

Eric Dier – 3 – It seemed like Tottenham tried to adopt the same tactic where Dier pushed up into midfield to stay with Iheanacho today, but it backfired consistently leaving the Spurs back line in a woeful shape to defend the second ball. He was in no man’s land for much of the game.

Ben Davies – 4 – Slightly better than his defensive colleagues, but not by a lot. He was solid in the air, but his passing out from the back caused issues at times.

Ivan Perisic – 4 – He may take a good corner at times, but Perisic was disappointing at both ends today. You wanted to see him get out to block Mendy’s shot a lot quicker, and he wasted too many crossing opportunities on the left wing.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 5 – It was by no means a poor performance from Hojbjerg, but he was chasing shadows at times as Spurs struggled to dictate play after the 20th minute. He essentially became an extra defender by the end of the game.

Rodrigo Bentancur – 7 – Tottenham’s one good performer on the day. He was calm and composed on the ball as always and actually looked to find some progressive passes through the lines. Unfortunately, he was rewarded with a horrible-looking injury.

Dejan Kulusevski – 4 – One of the most disappointing performances I have seen from him in a Spurs shirt. Usually, everything he touches has such finesse to it, but his touches were heavy and his passes were wasteful today.

Harry Kane – 3 – Just was not in the game. Leicester played him off the pitch. When he stayed high, they marked him well. And when he dropped deep, they crowded him out before he could do anything.

Heung-min Son – 3 – After such a promising display against Man City, it seemed as though Son was hesitating on the ball again today. There were a few chances where he could have pulled the trigger or slipped a quick pass into Kane, but he doesn’t look at his free-flowing best at the moment.

Subs:

Pape Matar Sarr – 5 – Actually came on and looked pretty composed in the middle of the park, which is good because Spurs will need him against AC Milan.

Richarlison – N/A

Emerson Royal – N/A

Davinson Sanchez – N/A

Arnaut Danjuma – N/A
