Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could turn to Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi to replace Antonio Conte.
Conte’s future remains up in the air, with the Italian’s current contract at Spurs running out at the end of the season (Transfermarkt). Gianluca Di Marzio told Sky Sport Italia (13/02/23 via Tutto Juve) just this week that he expects the Italian to walk away at the end of the season.
Football Insider have now asserted that Spurs are ‘now more likely than not’ to be on the hunt for a fifth manager in three-and-half years and they could turn to Conte’s compatriot, De Zerbi.
De Zerbi has built on the impressive work Graham Potter has done at Brighton since replacing the 47-year-old on the South Coast back in September.
The report claims that the former Sassuolo head coach has made an ‘excellent impression’ on the Tottenham hierarchy with the work he has done at the Amex Stadium so far.
The publication adds that Brighton’s transformation as an attacking until has particularly impressed the Spurs chiefs, who are now said to be monitoring De Zerbi amidst the uncertainty over Conte’s future.
Spurs Web Opinion
Having had to put up with Mourinho, Nuno and Conte for the past few years, I am desperately hoping that the next Spurs manager plays exciting, attacking football.
I would love for De Zerbi to take over but I doubt if the Italian will leave Brighton just months after taking the job, particularly given that the Seagulls are on an upward trajectory.
