Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte and his coaching staff love the tactical intelligence that Oliver Skipp possesses.
When it emerged last week following Tottenham’s 4-1 drubbing at Leicester that Rodrigo Bentancur would not kick a ball for the rest of the season, Spurs fans would have been forgiven for thinking their season may be in tatters, particularly with Yves Bissouma also out of action with an ankle injury.
However, fans would have taken a lot of heart from the two displays that Skipp has produced against AC Milan and West Ham, with the 22-year-old putting out fires impressively in front of the Lilywhites backline in both matches.
The England Under-21 international was particularly impressive in the win over the Hammers on Sunday, doing most of the hard work in the middle of the park and allowing his midfield partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg the luxury to be more adventurous.
In his post-match press conference, Cristian Stellini lavished praise on Skipp, remarking that the midfielder shows maturity beyond his years (Football.London).
Gold has now said on his YouTube channel about the Tottenham academy graduate: “The thing that the Spurs coaching staff love about him is how tactically intelligent he is. He’s always reading the game and he’s always looking at where there are gaps that he needs to cover.”

It seemed until a couple of weeks ago that Skipp’s Spurs career was heading nowhere and that he was potentially on his way out in the summer.
These injuries to Bissouma and Bentancur could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Tottenham, with the 22-year-old being handed a golden opportunity to showcase his skillset and make a case for being a fixture in the starting eleven for many years to come.
