Rio Ferdinand has predicted that Harry Kane will sign a new contract with Tottenham, stating that he believes that the striker wants to stay at his boyhood club and break the Premier League goalscoring record.
There have been some mixed reports regarding Kane’s future over the last couple of months but the latest one from Football Insider on February 18 was positive from a Tottenham standpoint.
The report claimed that Spurs no longer believe the 29-year-old’s future is tied to that of Antonio Conte, and suggested that the development is a ‘major’ boost to the North London club’s hopes of tying the striker down to a new contract.
Manchester United are expected to vie for the England captain’s signature in the summer if he does not sign a new deal at Tottenham, with The Telegraph revealing earlier this month that Daniel Levy will quote a price of £100m to the Red Devils for the player in that case.
When asked what he thinks Kane will do, Ferdinand has now said on his YouTube channel (as relayed by The Daily Mail): “If I’m a betting man, I’m going to say I reckon Harry Kane stays at Spurs and just goes, outright, for the goalscoring record.
“I think if Harry Kane came out and said [he wanted to stay and take the goalscoring record], I would respect him. It wouldn’t be what I would do or what I’ve done, but everyone to their own.
“I just want him to come out and tell us, so we’re all aware of what he wants to do. But again, this is a business. He’s up for renegotiation soon for a new contract. If he just says, yes, I want to be at Spurs, his bargaining power’s gone.”

It is not in Kane’s interest to make any announcements about his future when negotiations are going on over a new deal. The striker will not be in a hurry to make a decision and might want to see how the rest of the season unfolds and what direction Spurs are moving in.
