The Telegraph have revealed that Roberto De Zerbi, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, has a release clause of £11.5m in his contract with Brighton.
Antonio Conte’s contract at Tottenham runs out in the summer and there have been suggestions over recent months that the North London club could turn to Mauricio Pochettino or Thomas Tuchel if they part ways with the Italian (Daily Mail).
Football Insider reported last week that De Zerbi is also being monitored by Spurs, with the 43-year-old’s work at the Amex Stadium said to have made an ‘excellent impression’ on the Lilywhites hierarchy.
The Telegraph have now revealed that an exit from Brighton could be on the cards for the former Sassuolo boss, who has a release clause of £11.5m in his contract.
The report further adds De Zerbi has been left ‘frustrated’ by the fact he could not sign more players in the January transfer window to boost the Seagulls’ bid for Europe.
However, it is explained that the Italian is not just of interest to Tottenham but will also be considered by the likes of AS Roma, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus, who could all be on the lookout for new managers in the summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
With reports now indicating that Pochettino has turned down Chelsea (90 min), I suspect that Spurs have already reached out to the Argentine to inform him that he would be their first choice to replace Conte in the summer if the Italian leaves.
While I would love to have Pochettino back at Tottenham, partly for emotional reasons, one can argue that De Zerbi would be a better fit for the profile of our current squad and would be more of a forward-thinking appointment.
