Paul Merson believes that Chelsea will emerge with a comfortable win from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium if Graham Potter hands starts to the likes of Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling.

Despite Spurs having a poor record against Chelsea at home in recent years, the Lilywhites undoubtedly go into the clash as favourites, given the Blues’ struggles off late.

The West London club are winless in their last ten games across all competitions and reports indicate that Graham Potter is running the risk of being sacked, just a few months on from taking the job (90 min).

Tottenham have struggled to string wins together over recent months but they will take confidence from their last two performances at home against Man City and West Ham, and will be hoping to pile on the misery on Potter.

However, Merson believes that Chelsea are good enough to brush their London rivals aside as long as Potter fields the right team.

The former Arsenal midfielder told Sportskeeda: “This is one of Chelsea’s biggest games of the season.

“These are two teams that do not like each other. If Chelsea go and get beaten here, it adds more pressure on Potter. I want him to stay.

“If Chelsea play the team that squared off against Southampton last weekend, they won’t win the game against Spurs.

“If Potter goes back to his tried and tested system, the Blues will beat Spurs all day long.

“This is the starting XI I hope Potter goes with: Kepa, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Benoit Badiashile, Thiago Silva, Enzo Fernandez, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz and Joao Felix.

“If this team plays, they will beat Tottenham 3-0. If he plays Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, they won’t beat Spurs.”

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 0-3 Chelsea.

I am certainly not confident of Tottenham’s chances heading into the game but Merson’s prediction is quite outlandish, given Chelsea’s struggles for goals over the last few weeks.

I feel like they could crumble under pressure if we start the game with intensity and score the first goal.
