Jason Cundy has joked that Chelsea should consider appointing Cristian Stellini as their next head coach.

Some Spurs fans might have been concerned about the leadership void at the club in Antonio Conte’s absence, with the Tottenham boss continuing to recover in Italy after his gallbladder surgery.

However, Stellini has marshalled the troops impressively in the 53-year-old’s absence, with Tottenham having a 100 per cent record without their head coach on the touchline.

Stellini has continued to be quite gracious, playing down his own role in Spurs’ improved form and putting the results down to the processes that Conte has put in place (Football.London).

The 48-year-old also revealed that Conte is expected to be back at Hotspur Way this week to help oversee preparations for the clash against Wolves on Saturday.

Chelsea might soon be on the lookout for a new head coach, with the pressure now mounting on Graham Potter, and Cundy has joked that the Blues could perhaps take a look at Stellini, given his impressive record.

Dean Saunders: ‘Hey, the assistant manager is not bad.”

Cundy: “Do you know what I found out today? When he over was in Italy last season, when Conte was suspended, there were three games when he was up in the stands, do you know how many games he won?

Saunders: “Three.”

Cundy: “He has never lost a game so far! He has had six games as a manager. Do you know what? There will be managers up and down. Chelsea should look at him.”

Stellini is clearly a much calmer operator than Conte and perhaps some of the 48-year-old’s calmness has rubbed off on the Spurs squad over recent weeks.

Having said that, there is no doubt that the sooner Conte returns, the better it is for the players.
