In this afternoon’s press conference, Cristian Stellini has explained why Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will miss the Wolves game tomorrow.
Stellini has been in temporary charge of Tottenham for much of the last month, after Conte was diagnosed with Cholecystitis which led to him requiring surgery to remove his gallbladder.
The Tottenham assistant manager oversaw the win over Manchester City at the start of February, before Conte returned to take charge for two games – the 4-1 defeat against Leicester City, and the loss against AC Milan in the Champions League.
Conte then made the decision to remain in Italy to further his post-op recovery, leaving Stellini in charge. The 48-year-old has since been in the dugout for the wins over West Ham and Chelsea in the league, as well as the defeat to Sheffield United in the FA Cup on Wednesday.
Stellini had told Football.London that Conte would be back in time for the trip to Wolves on Saturday, but that will not be the case now. Instead, it has now been confirmed the 53-year-old will be back in London on Sunday (Daily Mail).
The Spurs number two has clarified the situation and revealed why Conte is coming back after the Wolves game rather than before as planned.
He told Football.London: “This is a question for the medical department because they decide the time schedule was one month. One month after the surgery stops on Saturday and they ask Antonio to come back on Sunday so this is a question for the medical department.”

I think it makes perfect sense that Conte would come back after the game, rather than throwing himself in the deep end against Wolves.
That way, he has some time to settle back in and prepare for the AC Milan game next week and spend some time with the players ahead of the game.
