Alexis Mac Allister has seemingly handed a boost to Tottenham and the other Premier League clubs interested in his services by admitting that he would like to take his ‘next step’ in England rather than moving abroad.

While Mac Allister has developed impressively since first arriving at Brighton more than three years ago, it was in Qatar that the midfielder announced himself on the world stage, playing a valued role in helping Argentina become world champions.

Curiously, it was an injury to a Spurs player in Giovani Lo Celso that offered the 24-year-old an opportunity to impress for the Albiceleste and it has since been suggested that he could be on his way to the North London club.

It was reported ahead of the January window that Antonio Conte had instructed the Tottenham hierarchy to make a push for the player (CMW.it).

However, the Lilywhites are far from the only Premier League club eyeing the 24-year-old, with the likes of Arsenal (Ben Jacobs), Liverpool (La Repubblica) and Chelsea (The Athletic) also being credited with an interest in him over the last two months.

Mac Allister has now said that he is focused on his task at hand at the Amex Stadium but admitted his desire to move to a top Premier League side.

The Brighton star told TyC Sports: “I don’t have a particular team where I say ‘this is the way I play.

“I think that here in the Premier League, there are very strong teams that play very well, like Manchester City and Arsenal, Chelsea too; I had Potter and I know the idea he has to play football.

“Manchester United is returning to be what it was and Liverpool are going through some ups and downs but they still have a very important team.

“If I have to say a place, I would like my next step to be in the Premier League. But the truth is that I am very focused here in Brighton and enjoying the present.”

Mac Allister will potentially have three years left on his contract in the summer, with Brighton having the option to extend his current deal by a year until 2026 (Transfermarkt).

That means that the 24-year-old will likely cost well over £50m in the summer, particularly if a bidding war ensues between the top Premier League clubs.
